I’ve often thought that if I were ever to leave my current job, it would be a beast of a task to try and update my resume. In fact, I tend to reflexively chuckle a little bit whenever someone asks me what it is I do for work. How do I begin to describe it? Yet, as it is imperative that you, my reader, have some context for my occupation if you are to even begin to understand my posts to come, I shall do my best to explain.

I think, perhaps, the best approach would be to give you the background of how I came to be employed by the Boss Family.

About 6 1/2 years ago I was working for a small company that sold children’s products. Due to some nepotism and the fact that it was a small company, I found myself in the position after Christmas one year of being temporarily laid off. I had a second job at the time, so I wasn’t too worried about it, but I also didn’t want to give them more hours (wasn’t the most pleasant of places to work), so I came home to my apartment, determined to come up with a plan.

Conversation that day eventually led me to putting in a call to Boss Mom because I had heard they were in need of a sitter once a week while she was at work. Between that and my other job, it was just enough to tie me over until I would return to my previous employment. I made sure she understood that I only wanted a *temporary* position. She did, and I started work the following Tuesday.

Long story short, my temporary job ended up being not-so-temporary. Babysitting once a week led to twice a week. That led to helping them with social media for Boss Mom’s fitness business for a few months out of their basement office. When that ended it was  a brief venture into possibly doing internet marketing (something I had some experience with at a previous job), and eventually landed with where I am at now; helping Boss Dad with his real estate investment business. So, my tentative schedule every week is as follows:

  • Monday: Office work
  • Tuesday: Watch Kiddos
  • Wednesday: Office work
  • Thursday: Watch Kiddos
  • Friday: Office work

I say tentative because, in actuality, I never really know for sure what I’m going to walk into when I get to work. There are days I walk in and they inform me that they’ve decided to flip my week all around. I’ve had to spontaneously traverse half of downtown Cleveland chasing government documents, walked into 4 ducks that they decided to get as pets in the garage, lugged their enormous cat across the entire county fair parking lot to get it to Kiddo 1 in time for her 4H judging, learned about international adoption policies, how to register LLCs and other corporate documentation, how to home school children, and so much more.

And so, chronicled here, as often as I remember and have time, shall be the events of my life as the modern help.
